If you come to Northern California - 2 great dive bars with excellent burgers are the Dutch Goose and The Oasis - both Stanford hangouts.
There is also the Village Pub in Woodside. The Pub Burger on the lunch menu is amazing and the restaurant has gotten a few Michelin stars.

Have you done Hole in the Wall on Santa Monica Blvd, just West of Sepulveda?

    Fabio,

"The Hellraiser" at Thompkins Square Bar and Grill (http://www.t2barandgrill.com/T2.swf) is Kobe to the Ronie Burger's MJ. (Ok, Kobe in the 2006 season when he had no supporting cast. T^2 fries are no comparison to the pan-seared potatoes at the Miracle.) As per it's name, it's a little more intense than the Ronie heat-wise, and it really wants to be as good...but I think it falls just short.

I'm trying to get Aman to come visit LA, and I think that the promise of a Ronie-wannabe reviewed on this site might bring him here.

Wanna meet up in Westchester some time and try one? T^2 has a good draft beer selection too if memory serves me well.

  • I'm game. I don't get down that way too often nowdays, but could probably swing it some night.

If you're ever in Seattle you gotta try a Dick's Deluxe. It's simple but fantastic old-style fast food.

You have to have UMAMI... in all my years, it is the closest I have ever been to crying over a burger. To make matters worse, I am constantly craving it... to the point that I have actually had dreams about them.
  • Thanks. I've actually been to Umami before, but didn't take any photos or write up a review. I'll have to get back there and do that soon.

How come AHT has never been to or talked about 26 Beach Restaurant. They have been doing regular and inventive burgers in Los Angels, CA for 20+ years. I would venture to say they are the Best Hamburgers in LA and the only place making their own hamburger buns! Come on AHT give a place without a publicist, big time investors with deep pockets for advertising, or a chef who came from another restaurant a chance. Here is a mom and pop place, with a sushi pedigree, yes sushi, that goes back hundreds of years to the Emperors of Japan, and a son who wanted to make hamburgers.
  • That's a great suggestion. I've only been to 26 Beach for breakfast (which is, btw, awesome). But I think I'm going to have to give the burger a try. Thanks!

I suggest you post about the Ronie burger again.

Kidding. Great site Furbio! I admire your powers of Internet.
  • As far as NYC burgers... The Times has been hot on the hamburger trail recently:

    Bub's, Carmel Indiana

Bison or beef choice. 1/4, 1/2, and full pound (post-cooked) burgers. (Eat the pound, get your picture on the wall.) Delicious.

Mmmmmm....think I'll go there for lunch today...thanks for reminding me.

...ummm...clearly I was not speaking clearly...

When it sounded like I said "bison" above, what I _actually_ said was "elk". Now that I play the tape back, I can see how one might think I said "bison". But I said "elk".
  • One small step for A bison, one giant leap for an elk.

Ok so I still like the Lions Tap Burger http://www.lionstap.com/ It is in Mpls MN and although each seperate burger is only a 1/4 pound the double is amazing. Super juicy, salty, perfect grilled onions, soft fresh bun and perfect tasting pickle and the cheese is great too. If you ever get to Minneapolis ya gotta try it. Here what Lions Tap says about themself.
    Award Winning Hamburgers

"Lions Tap has been rated as having one of the best hamburgers in the Twin Cities area by almost all surveys around. In 1995 we were recognized as one of the best 500 restaurants in the entire nation"
